Beauty with a Purpose: India’s Manushi Chhillar from Haryana Crowned Miss World 2017.

Manushi Chhillar, from India won the Miss World 2017 beauty pageant after Priyanka Chopra’s title, who bought the title in the year 2000. Miss England Stephanie Hill was the first runner up followed by Miss Mexico Andrea Meza winning the second runner up title.

The crown was presented to Manushi Chhillar by the previous year’s Miss World winner Stephanie Del Valle who is from Puerto Rico. The event was held at China’s Sanya City Arena and the moment of Chhillar’s winning was screened live globally.

The first Miss World crown was won by Reita Faria in 1966. In 1994 Aishwarya Rai took the title. Diana Haydon was crowned Miss World in 1994 followed by Yukta Mookhey in 1999. And then the most well-known Priyanka Chopra bagged the title in 2000. Manushi Chhillar brought back the pride to her homeland India, by being the sixth Indian to win the Miss World 2017 crown.

Manushi Chhillar is from Haryana, India. She originally belongs to Bamnoli village situated in Jhajjar District of Haryana. The comes from a place where the there is a worst population count in terms of male-female ratio. Manushi’s father Dr. Mitra Basu Chhillar is a scientist at DRDO and her mother Dr. Neelam is the departmental head of Neuro-chemistry at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences.

Manushi Chhillar is truly a gifted genius. She was an All-India CBSE Topper of Class 12. The 20 year old beauty pageant winner was pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and surgery while enrolling herself for the beauty pageant competition. She is third-year student pursuing her MBBS career at BPS Medical College for Women, in Sonepat. She is also a trained  Kuchipudi dancer and also has been a part of National School of Drama. She has also taken the cause of menstrual hygine and spreading awareness regarding the issue in around 20 villages under her initiative Project Shakti.

Many celebrities and big personalities have greeted her loads of wishes for her success, not to mention by the former Miss World, Priyanka Chopra, tweeting “And we have a successor!Congratulations @ManushiChhillar on becoming #MissWorld2017.. cherish and learn, and most importantly enjoy it.Bravo”
