December Tourism: Places in India to Visit this December.

December is the ideal month on the country India for tourism. The weather remains cool as the winter approaches. So many festivals and fairs are held on December, marking the beginning of fun, festival and celebrations. The country is cooler than before, creating a perfect ambiance for adventure, sightseeing, picnics and travelling. Cooler winds, cooler sands, cooler weather with less sunshine and sun tans -what’s more perfect idea than having a tour in and around India?

There are some beautiful places in India that are worth visiting especially during December. So let’s have a look on those places: 

1. Amritsar 

Plan your winter tourism travelling the north-western part of India. Amritsar is a worldwide popular place for travel and tourism especially known for the praiseworthy sacred place the Golden Temple. It is a spiritual and cultural centre for the Sikhs. People from all over the world are welcomed with all due respect to experience this wonderful place, Amritsar. Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated in winter time. Also the Guru-Parab falls in December month. You can visit the Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh, Wagah Border, Guru Ke Mahal and so on.

2. Bodh Gaya

Bodh Gaya is located in the State of Bihar. A very well known place for the Buddhists as it is the place where Gautama Buddha was said to have obtained enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree. Bodh Gaya is one of the four most important pilgrimage sites which are related to the life of Gautama Buddha. In fact the Mahabodhi Temple located in Bodh Gaya became a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. December is an amazing time to be in here and experience the spiritual vigour and tranquillity at the same time.

3. Sundarbans

Recognised as World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Sundarbans is known as one of the natural wonders of the world. It is world’s largest coastal mangrove forest. It’s famous for its ecologically balanced natural environment, varieties of never seen floras and faunas, the famous Royal Bengal Tigers, deer species and many endangered species such as Olive Ridley sea turtle, King Crabs etc. On the month of December, the place gets cooler and sets a perfect ambiance for a tour.

4. Shantiniketan

Shantiniketan is located in the Birbhum District of West Bengal. It is widely known for Rabindranath Tagore’s home and his life over there, the well-known Visva Bharati University, Basanta Utsav, Rabindra Jayanti, Poush Mela, Magh Mela, Sharodutsav etc. Most of the tourists visit Shantiniketan on the month of December especially for the Poush Mela. That’s a most popular tourist attraction. Artisans, folk singers, traditional Bauls and dancers are the main attraction.

5. Ziro Valley

A beautiful piece of paradise in located in Arunachal Pradesh: the Ziro Valley. Ziro is situated at an altitude of 1500 metres above sea level. It is rich in wide ranges of flora and faunas. The place is rich in rice field and surrounded by mountains and pine trees. What’s best is the climate over there. It has cool summers and cool winters. The view is spectacular and beholds the reputation of a visit worthy destination for winter.

6. Kohima 

Kohima is a hilly district of India’s North Eastern State of Nagaland. It has a humid subtropical climate. But it’s colder during December. The awe-inspiring scenic beauty of the rolling mountains, vast spreading greeneries, beautiful flora and faunas aided by the cool climate makes it a place worth visit. Kohima is the native place for the indigenous natives known as the Angami Nagas and Rengma Nagas. Dzukou Valley, Tuophema Tourist Village, World War II Cemetery, Khonoma Green Village etc. are worth visiting. The Hornbill Festival held in the month of December is truly a tourist tempting festival that offers various attractions such as colourful performances, food fests art and craft fest, various competitions, music and dance and the list is endless.

7. Tarkarli

Located in the state of Maharastra, Tarkarli is a less popular beach but worth a visit. It’s a coral beach with pleasant sea-side weather and finest sands waiting for you to visit. You might also spot some dolphins. The place have some amazing Malvani dishes that you can taste, finest sea sands that will not be harsher to your feet, suru trees to rest under and a pleasant winter weather –makes it a perfect destination package for December.
