Important Tips for a Healthier Sleep.

I guess we all know what sleep is. Even the ones who are deprived of a healthy sound sleep do have an obvious idea of what it is. Still if you need a medical sort of definition, then to brief up, “Sleep is a naturally recurring state of mind and body, characterized by altered consciousness, relatively inhabited sensory activity, inhibition of nearly all voluntary muscles, and reduced interactions with surroundings. It is distinguished from wakefulness by a decreased ability to react to stimuli, but is more easily reversed than the state of being comatose.”

Moreover there are plenty of theories and researches still going on sleep. The bottom line of the overall context is to have a proper sleep. Natural sleep pattern is however not being followed in modern days by almost everyone. Work pressure, depression, addiction to smartphones and gadgets are mostly the reasons why people get devoid of timely proper sleep. And this creates health problems. 

A proper sleep re-boosts and re-vitalizes your body, providing a better functionality.  The functionality, as it gets disrupted, causes tons of health related problems, such as:

• Irritability
• Depression
• Makes you moody
• It can lead to weight gain or obesity
• It affects metabolism
• It can cause heart disease
• Increases inflammation
• Affects social interaction

And the effects are endless. Minimum six to seven hours of sleep is necessary for a better health. And it would be great if you sleep for eight hours or more. In fact short power naps are equally essential as it clears your mind in between works and systemizes widely-arranged cognizance.

2. Blackout your room as much as possible

Turn all the lights off before sleep. Darken your room as much as possible.  The more the lights, the more distraction you will face. And the more you darken your room, you will be getting less distracted with objects.

3. Avoid drinking coffee or caffeine related beverages

Coffee or caffeinated drinks revitalize our body and keep us awake and active for a while. Drinking coffee before sleep is therefore not a good idea because it will take away your sleep. Avoid drinking coffee or any caffeinated beverage at least an hour before you are about to go to sleep.

4. Sleep after 2-3 hours of taking dinner

Do not sleep immediately after your dinner. That will disrupt your proper digestion and metabolism process. And also you will feel uncomfortable while sleeping. Better take more than 3 hours of gap before sleep.

5. Meditate before sleeping

Meditation will help relax your mind and declutter all the negative thoughts that are lingering in your mind throughout the day. It restores everything back to peace and you will be able to sleep afresh.

6. Do not engage yourself into upsetting or unsettling conversations

Avoid quarrelling with your friends, family members before going to sleep. First of all upsetting or unsettling conversations does not fetch anything good. The outcome is always a chaos and distressing mind. You can never have a sound sleep after a fight for sure.

7. Avoid phone calls before sleep

Try avoiding phone calls that you can assume will take a longer time. Stay away from unnecessary longer conversations. Longer conversation will take a lot of your time from your allotted sleep-time. Moreover, it creates stress on your mind. Hence it’s better to avoid phone calls and longer conversations unless it’s emergency.

8. It’s better not to watch news before sleeping

Watching television or news or even reading news before going to sleep also can cause delay in sleep. Because no matter what, more than eighty percent of the news gives a negative effect in your mind. Most of the news is about political turmoil, fights, murders and losses. These will roam around your mind and not let you sleep

9. Stay away from phones and gadgets and internet

Phones, gadgets and internet a strict no no before going to bed. It’s a major distraction to your sleep. Not only it causes a physical stress to your eyes but also it will keep you engaged in tempting pictures, videos, news and contents. So better try to stay away from phones, laptops and other gadgets.

10. Do not put on heavy meals and sleep ASAP

Eating heavy meals and going to sleep not only affects your digestion and metabolism process but will create a major uncomforted feeling. You might feel like vomiting if you put on a lot of heavy food and jump straight into bed. Better have a light weight meal or dinner before you go to sleep.
