The plans are getting reworked onto which the height of the Kolkata Eye has been increased. The initial height was proposed to be 100m. But now, the height has been increased to 135m and the diameter proposed is 120m. This shall exactly match the London Eye. And the Kolkata Eye Ferris Wheel will carry 600-700 people altogether taking 45 minutes to make one turn.

The proposal for Kolkata Eye, the giant Ferris Wheel was announced in 2011. On November 2017, Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) said that a second tender was to be called and shall be completed within next two years.

“We want Kolkata Eye to be 135 meters high, exactly same as the London Eye. Due to land constraint earlier, it was proposed that the height be shortened. But I have now instructed my department that it should be of the same height as the one in London and we will ensure that a very high technical expertise is adopted.” Firhad Hakim, Urban Development Minister told.

The revised plans is estimated to cost around 400 crore. A Senior KMDA official said, “We were instructed that operations should start within two years from the date of issuance of work” he further added “There will not be any compromise in professionalism or technical expertise.”

The Kolkata Eye will also have amusement parks and rides. A source said, “The view of the skyline and the Hooghly will be a major attraction. This will be the first time when such an initiative is being taken in India. After a lot of tussle between two major departments, work is progressing quickly.”
