Maa Durga Wearing 22KG Gold Saree worth 6.5 Crore Rupees in Kolkata’s This Durga Puja Pandal

Kolkata’s Durga Puja means a lot of fun filled celebrations and pandals mean lot more than just pandals. It comes with different creative themes that you can ever think of. People stand in long queues just to see the themed pandals and lightings and decorations work done in Kolkata’s pandals.

This 2017 North Kolkata’s Santosh Mitra Square has set a brand new theme. And this pandals has many things that are eye-catching. Firstly, the theme is London, and you will get to see Maa Durga in the replica of Buckingham Palace Pandal. There are also the replicas of London Eye, Big Ben, and London Bridge.

And the next thing that will surely make you spellbind is the saree that Maa Durga is wearing. She adorns a saree that’s made of pure gold. More than 22kgs of gold of 22- carat has been used making the idols gorgeous saree. The club is celebrating its 82nd Puja celebration and on that occasion designer Agnimitra Paul’s gold saree has been on the idols body. 

The embroidery is embossed with floral designs, birds, butterflies, giant peacock and so on and studded with minakaari work and gemstones.

Pradip Ghosh, President of the Puja committee told the media regarding the idea and the entire process behind this grand theme. His son Sajal Ghosh has suggested this idea. The saree took over two and a half months by 50 artisans to finally model it for the idol. 

This huge project was not just a cup of tea. The gold saree was sponsored by Senco Gold and Diamond. Kolkata based renowned fashion designer Agnimitra Paul, Artists Govinda and Pappu, Kumortuli’s famous artist Mintu Pal along with best goldsmiths in the state were behind the scene think-tanks who executed this huge project and is all set to welcome and attract the crowd.

And this will not only an out of the box concept but also helps to put the creativity of goldsmiths and artisans into limelight. It reflects the talent of Bengal and no doubt it’s praiseworthy.
