Rest in Peace: Indian Celebrities Whom We Lost in 2017

We saw loads of things that happened in 2017. Celebrity love affairs, new weddings, love triangles, divorces, party bloopers and many other things were witnessed by us. New movies got released, new awards have been won, and new records were made. But in the midst of so many incidents, we also lost some of the best and well known celebrities. They left us so soon shocking their fans in utter grief.

Let’s recall the celebrities whom we lost this 2017 for one more time: 

1. Om Puri

Om Prakash Puri, popularly known as Om Puri is worldwide famous Indian actor. He appeared in Indian films, commercial Indian films and also in art films. Furthermore the Padma Shri awardee appeared other non-Indian productions in Pakistan, United States and Britain.

Unfortunately, we lost such a professional and versatile actor on 6th January 2017. He died at the age of 66 after having a massive heart attack.

2. Sonika Simone Singh Chauhan

The very young, talented and rising model Sonika died at the age of 28. Yes, she was only 28 years when passed away. She was an Indian model, TV host and actress. She was also an anchor of Pro Kabaddi League in Star Sports. Sonika won fame at a very young age as a contestant at Femina Miss India and Miss Diva 2013. She also hosted a show at NDTV Prime.

Sonika had a sudden demise due to a road accident on 29th April, 2017.

3. Vinod Khanna 

One of the most popular Indian veteran actors Vinod Khanna unfortunately left us on 27th April 2017. He was an Indian actor and producer, who have played different roles in many Bollywood films. He was also an active politician and Minister of State for external affairs.

He died at the age of 70 on 27th April due to cancer.

4. Inder Kumar

Inder Kumar, mostly known for his television series and Bollywood film roles he played as a supporting actor will be remembered forever by his fans. He passed away at the age of just 44. He made his first debut in the film Masoom in 1996. He appeared on Star Plus’ most popular serial Kyuni Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2002. His notable films where he played supporting roles were Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996), Kahi Pyar Na Ho Jaye (2000), Tumko Na Bhool Payenge (2002) and so on.

On 28th July 2017 he took his last breadth. 

5. Tom Alter

Padma Shri awardee versatile actor of Indian cinema, Tom Alter passed away on 29th September 2017. He was a very talented actor and theatre artist. ‘Kranti’, ‘Sardar’, ‘Yaha Ke Hum Sikandar’ were among his few notable films. He has played roles on Hindi, English and Malayalam movies. He has also acted on television series.

He passed away due to cancer.

6. Reema Lagoo

Her fame rose from Indian Hindi television series like Shriman Shrimati and Tu Tu Main Main. She has also worked in films in various roles with Bollywood’s biggest superstars. Qayamat se Qayamat Tak, Maine Pyar Kia, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Hum Saath Saath Hain are some of her films she is best known for.

She died just at the age of 58 due to cardiac arrest on 18th May 2017.

7. Sitaram Panchal

Sitaram Panchal’s contribution on the biggest hit films of Indian cinema will be forever remembered. He acted in films like Slumdog Millionaire, Peepli Live, Jolly LLB 2, The Legend of Bhagat Singh.

He died at the age of 54 due to lung and kidney cancer.

8. Sashi Kapoor

At the age of 79, on 4th December 2017, veteran actor Shashi Kapoor left us for a heavenly abode. Shashi Kapoor also has appeared in numerous Hindi films and in few English language films as well. In 2015, Shashi Kapoor was awarded Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He was undergoing constant old age related problems and been under constant medical supervision.

His paramount contribution to the Bollywood Indian cinema is worth respectable; as the actor worked in over 175 films. Shashi Kapoor also produced some films that went very hit and popular and is still maintaining the same popularity. Junoon, Vijeta, Utrsav, Kalyug are some of his well known produced films. In 1988, he also directed a Russian movie named Vozvrashcheniye Bagdadskogo Vora. His first debut was in 1961 in the film Dharmputra. And ever since then he gave us some biggest hits, such as Deewar, Kabhie Kabhie, Suhaag, Trishul, Silsila, Namak Halal –these are just a few to be named. 

Till the late 1980 he ruled the Bollywood with his amazing acting and his unforgettable style and personality
