Amitabh Bachchan to inaugurate 24th Kolkata International Film Festival

The Kolkata International Film Festival which was started in the year 1995 is ready to inaugurate its 24th edition by Bollywood’s living legend Amitabh Bachchan in the presence of lots of Bollywood and Tollywood superstars including Shah Rukh Khan on 10th November.

Before 2011, the Kolkata International Film Festival was a comparatively small affair and limited to the small number of audience. Since 2011, the Festivals has a reached a whole new level in the terms of publicity and reach to a large audience under the Guidance of the Honorable Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee. This festival has become a flagship event of the Government of West Bengal now. This festival is not just grand in scale, but also very famous and accessible to common mass.

171 feature films, 150 shorts, and documentaries from 70 different countries across Globe would be display on 16 auditoria in Kolkata and Howrah with the “Anthony Firingee”, 1967 Bengali classic being the inaugural movie of the eight-day long festival. A report says Australia would be the focus country of this edition of Kolkata International Film Festival.

Besides Amitabh Bachchan, Australian directors Simon Baker, Jill Bilcock, and Philip Noyce and venerable Irish director Majid Majidi would be there in the opening ceremony at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.

Jaya Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Nandita Das, Wahida Rahman would also be present at the opening ceremony, Aroop Biswas, Chief Advisor of KIFF and state youth and sports minister said.
