Reports say that Facebook is estimated to lose almost 2 million users aged under 25 years in the United States, this year while Snapchat will add 1.9 million more to its user base. Facebook usage amongst children younger than 12 years of age will go down by 9%, with a cry off of about 6% each among the age group of 12 to 17 years and 18 to 24 years.

According to E-Marketer reports, “71% of social network users between 12 and 17 years old will be using Facebook regularly this year, down 8 points from last year’s forecast in UK." That would essentially mean that Snapchat is set to get log-ins from 43% of UK Facebook users in 2018, which is more than double the number a few years ago.

The overall number of Facebook users is estimated to reach 169.5 million in the US and 32.6 million in the UK this year because of this huge shift. The reason behind this might be a mere”, but whatever it is, it is burning a huge hole in Facebook’s pocket for sure. These “teen issues” are now at an early stage which detects a huge group of young social networkers being swayed away by Snapchat in the coming months. This might be because Snapchat appeals beyond the core youth demographic.

Tech firms are also being pressurized to address their impact on children. Apple too is being asked to craft ways for parents to control and check their children’s access to mobile phones.
